MAIN CONTENTS OF SA8000-2014
SA8000:2014 International Standard for Social Responsibility is a set of internationally accepted corporate social responsibility management tools and verification standards developed by Social Accountability International (SAI), which mainly includes the following nine contents:
CHILD LABOR:
Organizations shall not use child labor, and are prohibited from employing out-of-school child laborers. They shall use young laborers with restrictions and shall not expose them to unsafe or unhealthy working environments.
FORCED AND COMPULSORY LABOR:
Organizations shall not use forced and compulsory labor, whether prison labor, bonded labor or other forms of involuntary labor, nor shall they require employees to pay a "deposit" or deposit their identity documents with the employer at the beginning of employment.
HEALTH AND SAFETY:
Organizations must provide employees with a safe and healthy working environment, Including but not limited to preventing potential work-related accidents, providing basic safety and sanitation conditions for the working environment, facilities required to prevent occupational accidents or injuries, bathroom facilities, and supply of clean drinking water, etc.
FREEDOM OF ASSOCIATION AND COLLECTIVE BARGAINING:
Organizations should respect employees' freedom of association and collective bargaining rights, and should not interfere with or obstruct employees from establishing or joining legal organizations such as trade unions.
DISCRIMINATION:
Companies should not discriminate against employees in hiring, compensation, training, promotion, retirement, etc. based on race, social class, nationality, religion, disability, gender, sexual orientation, union membership or political affiliation; nor should they allow coercive, abusive or exploitative sexual harassment, including gestures, language and physical contact.
DISCIPLINARY PUNITIVE MEASURES:
Companies should not engage in or support punitive measures such as corporal punishment, mental or physical coercion and verbal insults.
WORKING HOURS:
Companies should not often require employees to work more than 48 hours a week, and should have at least one day off every 6 days, and overtime hours should not exceed 12 hours per week, and other provisions on overtime in relevant laws and regulations should be observed.
SALARY:
The salary paid by the company to employees should not be lower than the minimum standard of the law or industry, and must be sufficient to meet the basic needs of employees. Deductions from wages cannot be punitive, and there should be no purely labor-based contractual arrangements or false apprenticeship systems to circumvent the obligations to employees stipulated in the relevant laws.
MANAGEMENT SYSTEM:
Organizations need to incorporate risk management, corrective and preventive actions, etc. through the concept of system management so that social responsibility management can operate effectively and continuously, including formulating relevant policies and procedures, clarifying responsibilities, conducting training, communication and supervision, etc.
